Miss Taylor-Crozier

Hello, I am the class 1 teacher! I love teaching PE and geography and I am passionate about outdoor learning and the world we live in. I am the subject lead for Early Years, PE and I am the Deputy Safeguarding Lead.

Welcome to our class page! The children in the Busy Bee class are taught in different ways throughout the day. We have a variety of approaches including focus group activities, whole class activities and self-initiated activities. At the beginning of each term we set off with a topic or theme in mind which we think will interest and motivate our eager learners, but we are flexible in our approach and shape our planning to match the evolving interests of the children within our class.

Autumn 1

This half term our topic is: Dinosaurs!

Through the teaching of this topic, the following curriculum areas will be covered;

English: we will be looking at and sharing lots of dinosaur books including Harry and his Bucketful of Dinosaurs, Gigantosaurus, Dinosaur Department Store and many more, including some non-fiction. We will pactice writing labels, captions, posters and lists.

Maths: in year one we will be developing key skills in number and place value, addition and subtraction and 2D and 3D shape. In reception children will be matching and sorting numbers, comparing amounts and learning 1 more and 1 less. The whole school uses White Rose Maths to teach mathematics to ensure progression and coverage for all year groups.

Science: we will be learning all about ourselves through how we change, our body parts and senses as we conduct experiments with our senses and learning about our basic needs, including ways we can stay healthy.

Design and Technology and Art: we will be following the design, make and evaluate process to create our own dinosaurs through a choice of our own media; sketching, 3D, collage, sculpture, paint. Furthermore, we will be following a recipe to make salt dough for our very own fossils. We will also be working on the woodwork bench to gain our independent licenses to use a hammer and junior hacksaw.

Geography:
we will be looking at the UK and the countries within it as well as the world's 7 continents.

History: we will learn who Mary Anning was and all there is to know about dinosaurs, creating timelines, looking at the different types, their diet and different fossils including how they are formed.

PSHE: Boris the robot, learning how to be ‘HeartSmart' as we are introduced to and reminded about Boris and the importance of us all being unique.

ICT: looking at multimedia and word processing and developing simple skills such as using a mouse and how to use a laptop or ipad.

Music: Sing Up with Mrs Battersby. We will also be creating our own dinosaur music as we learn about different instruments and how to keep a simple beat.

PE: we will be working with Mr Blair, whom we all know very well, on a Wednesday afternoon doing multi-skills and dancing our way into the weekend with Nicola Stephenson on a Friday afternoon. Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school on these days.

RE: we will be learning all about God and the Creation Story.

Phonics and Spellings
Children in Reception and Year 1 have a daily ability grouped phonics session each morning. They practise sounds already taught and learn new phonemes and graphemes through Little Wandle Letters and Sounds.

Reading

Our reading books are organised to match the phonics scheme of learning. Children are heard reading 1:1 at least once a week within school and then three times a week as part of a guided reading session in a small group. Children also take part in ‘Headstart’ reading comprehension activities and share their books with a book buddy. Please can children try and read every day at home as this helps to improve blending, comprehension, grammar and spelling and most importantly helps to develop a life-long love of reading for pleasure.

Homework

As homework we would like your child to read daily and to practise their spellings (year one). We may set suggested activities alongside school learning via SeeSaw if you wish to have a go at these. Children in class one will have no physical weekly homework to complete.
