Bishop's Church School Award
A new Diocesan award is to recognise Cumbrian schools which have helped build strong partnerships with their local churches.
For the first time ever four schools from across the county will receive a Bishop’s Church and School Award.
Those to be honoured at a special presentation are:-
Beaconside C of E Primary, Penrith
Cartmel C of E Primary
Gosforth C of E Primary
Low Furness C of E Primary
The awards recognise ongoing work in the development of Christian clubs in the schools to help create closer working ties with churches.
The Bishop of Carlisle, the Rt Revd James Newcome said: “We’re delighted to have launched these awards and all four schools are worthy recipients of praise."
“It’s a fantastic demonstration of the work that is ongoing in our Cumbrian communities to bring the light of Christ to our youngsters."
”In terms of fresh expression of church and community outreach their work also links in wonderfully with our Diocesan Vision of growing disciples.”
Pupils and club leaders from all four winning schools were invited for afternoon tea with Bishop James and members of staff from the Diocesan Board of Education.
Each school gave a presentation on the work they had completed to develop Christian clubs.
Michael Mill, Director of Education said: “We were aware of some really innovative work between churches and schools and wanted a way of recognising good practice and encouraging others to realise what might be possible in their communities.”
