Cartmel Church of England Primary School is Proud to be a Peer Tutoring School

This February we joined Curious Minds as a Beacon School for their Peer Tutoring Programme. Over a two full day sessions, a group of expert trainers delivered sessions for nine pupils, enabling them to develop an understanding of how learning works and then use that knowledge to help someone else learn.

The training included plenty of collaborative, team building activities with individual and group reflections. Within the training our pupils learnt about the role of a Peer Tutor, including ways to build rapport through effective communication, and the importance of using positive language.

Peer Tutoring inspires, motivates, and empowers young minds to communicate, support one another, and take responsibility for each other's development. It provides a unique opportunity for pupils to work together in a supportive and collaborative environment, ultimately enhancing their academic and personal growth.

Rachel Battersby, Head Teacher, shared her reflections on the Peer Tutoring programme, “The training was wonderful.  It’s such an exciting project to be involved with.  It was great over these two days to see the children’s confidence already growing in their ability to start stepping into their new roles.  I look forward to seeing how the work evolves and how our children build their toolkit of life skills, whilst developing the learning of our younger pupils.  I also look forward to continuing to work with the Curious Minds team to embed this programme within our school and to see how these skills radiate across our school in the future.”
