World War 2 talk

Date: 9th Oct 2019 @ 5:03pm

Yesterday morning I experienced the most engaging, interesting talk to Class 3 by a WW2 veteran. The children were extremely well behaved and were excellent at listening, asking pertinent questions which deepened their learning about their topic. Listening to every detail was just captivating as we learned about how the landing craft took American soldiers to the beaches of France, battling the perils of the sea:the  heaving up and down of the turbulent waves, oceans littered with submarines that sank so many of our ships. The bravery of the men was apparent, as was their resilience in the face of danger, alongside doing their duty  with empty stomachs because they did not eat for about 3 days during the landing operations.

Hearing first hand from a veteran,  certainly made the information they were gathering very real. The trip to Eden Camp will also make the learning much more experiential and provide further depth to their topic.

Have a wonderful visit.
